Postoperative effects on lower third molars of using mouthwashes with super-oxidized solution versus 0.2% chlorhexidine gel : a randomized double-bli…
2018
Background The main objective of the present study is to evaluate the effects and possible benefits with regard to the postoperative period of lower third molar extractions, comparing the intraalveolar application of a bioadhesive gel of 0.2% chlorhexidine (CHX) to the use of a mouthwash with a super-oxidized solution, (SOS) Dermacyn® Wound Care (Oculus Innovative Sciences lnc., California, USA). Material and Methods A randomized double-blind study was carried out in 20 patients with a split-mouth design, with a total of 40 extractions of symmetrically impacted bilateral lower third molars. Patients were divided into two groups, a control group (C = 20) and an experimental group (D = 20). A…
Short-Term Results in Evaluating a Gingiva-Adhesive Hydrophobic-Chlorhexidine-Gel for Chronic Periodontitis
2014
Background and Aims: Oral mucosa and interproximal spaces of the teeth could favor the colonization of periodontopathogenic bacteria, which could be targeted by chemical antiplaque agents such as chlorhexidine, present in different oral hygiene products, thus improving the control of biofilm growth and delaying microbial accumulation. The study aimed to evaluate whether the use of a hydrophobic gel with good gingival adhesion for 14 days after the scaling and root planing of patients with chronic periodontitis would improve the treatment outcome, when compared with the use of a regular hydrophyllic gel.Material and Methods: Patients with moderate disease were included in two study groups. A…
Non-surgical management of chronic periodontitis with two local drug delivery agents-A comparative study
2011
Background: The selective removal or inhibition of pathogenic microbes with locally delivered antimicrobials when combined with scaling and root planing is often an effective approach for the managment of chronic periodontitis. Aim: To compare the clinical efficacy of tetracycline fibers and a xanthan based chlorhexidine gel in the treatment of chronic periodontitis. Methods and materials: Thirty systemically healthy patients in the age group of 30-50 years suffering from generalized chronic moderate periodontitis were selected. For each subject, two experimental sites were chosen that had probing depth >5mm and were located in symmetric quadrants and the sites were randomized at split mout…
Effectiveness of intra-alveolar chlorhexidine gel in reducing dry socket following surgical extraction of lower third molars: a pilot study
2015
Background: Dry socket is one of the most studied complications in dentistry and several studies have sought an effective and safe method for its prevention and treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of intra-alveolar gel chlorhexidine in preventing dry socket after the surgical removal of third molars. Material and Methods: The sample involved the treatment of 40 patients who required extraction of third molars impacted, which were randomly assigned to research groups: experimental group (chlorhexidine gel 0.12%) and control group (placebo gel). Performed the extraction was administered 1 mL of chlorhexidine gel or 1 mL of placebo gel within the socket. The remo…
Effects of different intra canal medicaments on the push out bond strength of endodontic sealers
2016
BACKGROUND One of the essential properties of the root canal sealers is the adhesion to root canal dentin and their higher bond strength decreases the microleakage. The aim of the present study was to compare the effect of Different Intracanal medicaments on the push out bond strength of AH26 and MTA Fillapex sealers. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 104 one-rooted extracted human teeth were divided into 4 (n=26) experimental groups. After the cleaning and shaping, the root canals were filled with Ca(OH)2, triantibiotic paste (TAP), Metapex or 2% chlorhexidine gel for two weeks. Then, intracanal medicaments were rinsed away and the samples in the sub-groups were obturated with gutta-percha a…
Root canal disinfection of immature dog teeth with apical periodontitis: Comparison of three different protocols.
2014
Objectives: The present in vivo study was designed to assess the efficacy of 3 root canal disinfection protocols in immature dog teeth with apical periodontitis (AP). Material and Methods: Forty immature premolars with pulp necrosis and AP of five Beagle dogs were used. Three experimental disinfection protocols were established. After irrigation with 40 ml 5.25% sodium hypochlorite using the Endovac system, in Group 1 canals were flushed with QMix solution; in Group 2, canals were flushed with QMix solution and 2% chlorhexidine gel dressing was placed for two weeks; and in Group 3, triantibiotic paste dressing was placed for two weeks. Canals were sampled after periapical lesions were radio…
